These devices, typically featuring a horizontal push bar, are designed for quick and easy egress with minimal effort, even without prior knowledge of the mechanism.

BS EN 179 Emergency Exit Hardware, should be fitted on doors where occupants are familiar with the exit route and the hardware, such as in offices or other areas where panic is unlikely. This standard is for doors used by people who know the escape routes and how to operate the hardware, like trained staff in an office. The hardware can be a lever handle or push pad.
